Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure aimed at removing excess skin, muscle, and fat herniation in the area of the lower eyelids. This operation improves the appearance of the eyes, especially in older individuals, where excess skin and tissue laxity become more noticeable. This procedure can reduce eyelid sagging and give them a younger and more rested appearance. However, it is important to note that lower eyelid surgery does not remove expression wrinkles, commonly known as “crow’s feet,” does not eliminate dark circles under the eyes, nor does it lift the eyebrows.

The procedure can be performed as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other aesthetic surgeries, such as facelift, upper eyelid correction, brow lift, or nose shaping. In patients with significant laxity of the lower eyelid, which protrudes from the eyeball, an additional procedure called canthoplasty may be necessary, which involves shortening the lower eyelid and improving its tension. This allows for a more lasting and aesthetic result. Lower eyelid surgery does not stop the aging process but significantly improves the appearance of the skin around the eyes, making the face look younger and fresher.
